The Process of Making Batik (video 2:56)
Traditional
artisans use a complex multi-stage process to create batik. They
alternate the drawing of intricate hot wax designs with the hand-dipping
of the silk into colorful dyes. Throughout additional stage of the
process they also dip the silk into vats of boiling water to remove the
wax. Some of the finest examples require months to produce.
